Zendaya Tops Oscars Best Dressed Lists

HOLLYWOOD

She wasn’t on the presenter list. Nobody saw her coming. And yet, the moment Zendaya stepped onto the Oscars stage on Sunday night, the night belonged to her.

More than three hours into the 2026 Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the actress made a surprise appearance to present the Best Director award alongside her co-star Robert Pattinson  and she did it in a custom chocolate-brown Louis Vuitton gown that instantly sent fashion editors and fans into a frenzy.

The Look That Stopped the Show

Designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, the one-shouldered gown was a masterclass in understated drama. The rich brown tone was unexpectedly  a deliberate break from the golds and reds that dominate Oscars red carpets  and it paid off completely.

The silhouette was sculpted and elegant, with strategic draping at the waist before opening into a flowing skirt with a subtle train. A daring high slit added a flash of edge to what was otherwise a study in refined glamour. Styled by her longtime creative partner Law Roach, every detail was intentional.

Accessories came courtesy of CINDY CHAO The Art Jewel  including White Label Diamond Branch earrings featuring 84 pear-shaped diamonds totalling over 30 carats  and a white gold diamond-encrusted Lady-Datejust Rolex valued at $177,400. Her hair, cut short in her now-signature pixie, was styled in a sleek side part by hairstylist Ursula Stephen. The overall effect was effortless, expensive, and entirely her own.

Social Media Erupts

The reaction was immediate. Within minutes of her appearance, Zendaya was trending across social platforms. Fans and fashion commentators alike flooded comment sections with reactions ranging from admiring to outright reverent.

“She’s the most elegant woman in the acting world today,” wrote one fan. Another simply posted: “Zendaya just showed up and reminded everyone why the Oscars are her runway.” Law Roach himself, never one to undersell a moment, called the look “very beautiful.”

Marie Claire placed her among the top of their Best Dressed Stars of the 2026 Oscars list, describing the ensemble as “simple, elegant, and very much worth the wait.” Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and virtually every major fashion outlet echoed the sentiment.

A Detail Fans Didn’t Miss

Beyond the fashion, one accessory drew particular attention. Zendaya was spotted wearing what appeared to be a diamond engagement ring and gold wedding band on her left hand  fueling ongoing speculation about her relationship with Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland.

It wasn’t the only subtle detail. The low-cut side of the gown offered a glimpse of a small “t” tattoo on her ribs, first spotted at the 2025 Golden Globes and widely believed to be a tribute to Holland. Neither Zendaya nor her representatives have officially commented.

A Career Built on Red Carpet Moments

Zendaya has been redefining what it means to dress for a red carpet since she was a teenager. Her 2015 Oscars appearance  at just 18  in a white Vivienne Westwood gown with locs became a cultural moment when she pushed back against negative media commentary, saying her styling choice was meant to show that natural Black hair belongs on prestigious stages.

More than a decade later, she remains the standard against which Oscars fashion is measured. Every appearance  planned or surprise  carries weight precisely because she treats fashion as genuine self-expression rather than obligation.

What Comes Next

Sunday’s appearance was a reminder that Zendaya doesn’t need a nomination or a formal red carpet slot to own an awards ceremony. With four major films  The Drama, The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Dune: Part Three  all scheduled for release over the next year, the fashion world, and the film world, will have plenty of opportunities to watch what she does next.

If Sunday night was any indication, she has absolutely no intention of blending into the background.
