Sarah Ferguson’s humanitarian charity, Sarah’s Trust, has officially closed after more than seven years of charitable work supporting vulnerable communities in Britain and overseas. The organisation, founded by Ferguson in 2018, had previously announced in February that it would cease operations “for the foreseeable future.” The closure has now moved from an announcement to a formal end for the charity, according to records held by the UK Charity Commission.
Sarah’s Trust was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on June 7, 2018. Its stated purpose included the prevention or relief of poverty and providing grants and support to charities and voluntary organisations. Ferguson served as chair, working with other trustees to direct the organisation’s charitable activities.
Over the years, the Trust supported humanitarian projects in a number of areas. Its work expanded significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it provided assistance to frontline workers and vulnerable communities. The organisation also supported humanitarian efforts connected with Ukraine and projects involving education and communities in Ghana. Reporting has said the Trust worked with more than 60 charities around the world during its years of operation.
The decision to close came amid renewed scrutiny surrounding Ferguson’s past association with Jeffrey Epstein. In February 2026, newly released U.S. Department of Justice documents brought additional attention to communications between Ferguson and Epstein, including messages that showed a closer relationship than previously understood. The charity subsequently announced that it would close, saying the decision had been under discussion for months.
It is important to distinguish the timing from the officially stated reason. While the closure followed the renewed scrutiny, I cannot confirm that Sarah’s Trust formally stated that the Epstein revelations were the direct cause of its closure. The publicly reported explanation was that trustees had been discussing the future of the organisation for several months.
The charity’s final published financial figures also provide some context. For the year ending May 31, 2025, Sarah’s Trust reported income of £31,423 and expenditure of £114,377. That represented expenditure exceeding income by £82,954, although those figures alone do not establish that financial pressure caused the organisation to shut down.
The closure brings an end to a charity that Ferguson had positioned as a vehicle for connecting donors, charities and humanitarian projects. Its final chapter comes at a difficult moment for the former Duchess of York, whose public and charitable associations have faced renewed scrutiny. Nevertheless, the Trust’s years of humanitarian activity, particularly its support during the pandemic and international relief efforts, remain part of its documented legacy.
