After months of courtroom battles, public accusations and intense media attention, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have officially reached a legal settlement, bringing an end to one of Hollywood’s most closely watched disputes connected to the film It Ends With Us.
The controversy first emerged in late 2024, when Blake Lively filed complaints accusing her co-star and director Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation during the production and promotional period of the film. Baldoni strongly denied the allegations, and what initially appeared to be a workplace dispute quickly evolved into a complex legal battle involving multiple lawsuits, media organizations and even Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds.
In early 2025, Baldoni responded with a massive $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds and others, claiming that false accusations had damaged his reputation and career. However, several months later, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman dismissed much of Baldoni’s case, ruling that a number of the statements in question were legally protected.
The legal fight took another turn in 2026 when the court dismissed ten of the thirteen claims brought by Lively, including her sexual harassment claims against Baldoni. A small number of retaliation and contract-related claims involving Baldoni’s production company remained active, setting the stage for what was expected to become a highly publicized trial.
But just weeks before the proceedings were due to begin, both sides reached an agreement to settle the remaining claims. According to court filings and statements from lawyers representing both parties, neither Blake Lively nor Justin Baldoni admitted wrongdoing, and no financial settlement was exchanged between them as part of the resolution.
Although the settlement ended the primary dispute, one issue remains unresolved. In June 2026, Judge Liman ruled that Lively was entitled to recover attorney fees related to defending against Baldoni’s dismissed defamation lawsuit. The exact amount has yet to be determined.
Despite the controversy surrounding its release, It Ends With Us performed strongly at the global box office and became a commercial success. With the settlement now finalized, both Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni appear ready to move forward, closing a chapter that has dominated entertainment headlines for more than a year and a half and captivated audiences far beyond Hollywood.
